Recipe tips & variations

Here are some of my top tips for making this dolce latte recipe:

  • Froth the milk: This is key to making the best latte! I'd highly recommend using a milk frother, but if you don't have one, you can heat up the milk in the microwave then shake it in a mason jar.
  • Use strong coffee: Espresso is key for making lattes, but if you don't have any or you're not a fan of the taste, you can use strong brewed dark roast coffee. Just keep in mind it will be a slightly different flavor.
  • Make an iced latte: Make this latte with cold milk and serve it over ice for a summer-friendly version. You could also try using cold brew instead of espresso.
  • Try different syrups: The homemade cinnamon syrup is what makes this drink so delicious, but you could swap out the cinnamon for pumpkin pie spice instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cinnamon dolce latte?

The name says it all – cinnamon dolce latte translates to sweet cinnamon latte. A cinnamon dolce latte is a popular seasonal drink from Starbucks made with espresso, frothed milk and a decadent cinnamon syrup to sweeten it. It's the perfect drink to have once September rolls around and the fall and winter months begin. Just imagine cozying up by the fire pit with this drink!

What does it taste like?

This copycat cinnamon dolce latte combines the warm spices of cinnamon with the rich flavours of a delicious latte and your favourite espresso.

Can you make it without espresso?

If you don’t have an espresso maker at home or you just find it too strong, you can technically use brewed coffee in place of espresso. Just try and use a really dark roast and brew it extra strong. The flavour won’t be the exact same but it’ll still be delicious!

How many calories are in a Starbucks cinnamon dolce latte?

The Starbucks version of this cinnamon dolce latte has 340 calories for a Grande (16 oz.) size. In comparison, my drink has just 207 calories, so you’re saving a bunch of calories by making your latte using simple ingredients at home! My version is also made without whipped cream, which cuts back on the calories.

Can you make it an iced drink?

Absolutely! To make this an iced coffee, pour the syrup and espresso into a large glass with ice. Pour some cold milk over top and enjoy. You could even swap out the espresso for cold brew.
